Chelmsford is a town in Middlesex County. It is located within the historic homeland of the Pennacook, ancestors of whom are Abenaki First Nation members. Chelmsford is surrounded by four towns, including Lowell to the northeast, Tyngsborough to the north, Billerica to the southeast, Carlisle to the south, and Westford to the west.

The Bruce Freeman Rail Route in Massachusetts is a partially finished rail trail. The walkway is a 10-foot-wide paved multi-use path that may be used for walking, jogging, bicycling, rollerblading, and other non-motorized activities.
