Ipswich is a coastal town in Essex County, Massachusetts. Ipswich is located forty minutes north of Boston and is bordered by Rowley to the north, Boxford to the west, and Topsfield, Hamilton, Essex and Gloucester to the south. The town is known for its clams, which are honored yearly at the Ipswich Chowderfest, and for Crane Beach, a barrier beach near the Crane estate.

Transportation
Ipswich has no interstate highways; Interstate 95 runs through adjacent Boxford and Topsfield. The western end of town is served by US Route 1, also known as the Newburyport Turnpike. Massachusetts Routes 1A and 133 both go through town, coming concurrently from Rowley and passing through the town center before splitting south of the town center; Route 1A goes to Hamilton and Beverly, while Route 133 goes to Essex and Gloucester.
Ipswich has a station on the MBTA Commuter Rail's Newburyport/Rockport Line, which runs between Newburyport and Boston's North station.
There is no air service in town; the nearest small airports are in Newbury and Beverly, and Boston's Logan International Airport is the closest national service. The Ipswich Essex Explorer is a weekend shuttle service that connects the Ipswich MBTA train station to Crane Beach, Essex, and Appleton Farms throughout the summer.
