About Lynn
Lynn is the eighth-biggest municipality in Massachusetts and the largest city in Essex County. Lynn is located on the Atlantic Ocean, 3.7 miles (6.0 km) north of the Boston city border at Suffolk Downs, and is part of Greater Boston's urban center. The city is bordered by Nahant to the southeast, Swampscott to the east, Salem to the northeast, Peabody to the north, Lynnfield to the northwest, Saugus to the west and Revere (in Suffolk County) to the south. Transportation
The nearest Interstate or controlled-access route to Lynn is U.S. Route 1 in Saugus and Lynnfield, as well as the intersection of Interstate 95 and Route 128 in Lynnfield. Lynn is served by Massachusetts State Route 1A, Route 107, Route 129, and Route 129A. Route 107 runs through the city from southwest to northeast on a generally straight right-of-way. It has a 0.5 mile (0.80 km) concurrency with Route 129A, which follows Route 129's old route through the city between its parent route and Route 1A. Route 129 enters the city from the north before turning south and passing through the downtown area before joining Route 1A for 1 mile (1.6 km). Route 1A travels from Revere to Swampscott via the western section of the Lynnway, a split roadway within the city. The Lynnway itself goes along the shore, eventually leading to a circle that connects it to Nahant Road and Lynn Shore Drive, which both continue the coast into Swampscott.
Lynn is served by Lynn station on the MBTA Commuter Rail system's Newburyport/Rockport Line, as well as River Works station (which is for GE Aviation employees only). A number of MBTA bus lines connect Lynn to Boston and the surrounding communities. The nearest airport is Boston's Logan International Airport, about 5 miles (8.0 km) south.
